Ravenous
(FEATURE, HORROR THRILLER) Horror prop artist Alison Dawkins returns to her childhood home to find that her dying father has founded a cannibalistic cult.

Filmmatic Horror Screenplay Awards
"RAVENOUS is an intense and unsettling story about family, trauma, and cannibalism. Though there are many strengths one of the highlights is the sense of dread that permeates throughout. It becomes clear very fast that something is strange in Nature's Bounty: the many townsfolk act weird, people laughs at inappropriate times, and unusual iconography is on every window. The strangeness feels the most heightened whenever Alison has a conversation with her dad. Almost every one of these exchanges feels loaded with unsettling subtext. This is very enjoyable and continuously hooks the attention. The script also does a great job taking that dread and transitioning it into full blown horror in the third act.

Another strength is the many twists and turns throughout. This screenplay feels like it builds at all the right moments. Each act escalates on the one before it and the final act is a rollercoaster of a finale. The foreshadowing creates tension without revealing any of the oncoming twists. This is a fun one."

"RAVENOUS is a fascinating and horrific look at rural America. Its protagonist, a documentary filmmaker, is the perfect person to investigate the horrors of her hometown. Her forced return home to help with a seemingly sick and dying father is sadly a universal story for many people. There, she reconnects with old friends and uncovers a sinister “historical society” of power figures in the community who are eating humans. This organization includes her father, who tries to welcome her into the family business by forcing her to consume her murdered husband. It’s a truly terrifying tale."

Stage 32
"RAVENOUS is an aptly titled horror/thriller that uses a familiar set up to deliver on some intense plot points and
images. Its strengths include a strong protagonist with a powerful voice, some great dialogue, as well as a slow
descent into terrifying plot developments that effectively keep the reader engaged.

This story is highly original despite some familiar plot mechanics. It starts out seemingly comedic and light in town,
but slowly evolves into something far more sinister.

Dad is a character that brilliantly defies all expectation and cliche. Also carrying his fair share of guilt and trauma, he
is introduced as a harmless townsman but slowly evolves into a nightmarish villain in the same vein as Hannibal
Lector.

The plot and pacing unfold organically and a natural speed, and there are no major qualms with how or when
information is delivered. In fact, the writer is very savvy at giving us only what we need to know to maintain a high
level of suspense."

Script Pipeline (separate reviewer)
"The writer is clearly seasoned in the craft of screenwriting. The writing is very clean, and the vivid descriptions and organic dialogue allowed the narrative to progress at an easy and engaging pace. The writer also takes care in crafting evocative characters, which allowed their mannerisms and responses to be incredibly believable. Despite the overly violent conceptual design, the realism employed here made
the narrative entirely accessible, which is not an easy task considering the subject matter."

Script Pipeline
"I found Alison to be an extremely likable and compelling heroine... someone who I could totally see as the foundation of an exciting feature film. The interpersonal strife she goes through in this film is great, and it's an excellent
building block to work from."

Screencraft
"Ravenous is a compelling film with excellent horror conventions and plenty of suspense, drama, and conflict to keep an audience entertained. Alison is a strong protagonist because she has high stakes obstacles to overcome, allowing us to empathize with her and root for her throughout."
